Vocals for Massive Attack

Mezzanine 앨범 이전, 이후의 Massive Attack은 그동안 거들떠 보지도 않았으나,
최근에 이 곡들은 듣고보니 좋다.
역시 Robert Del Naja(aka "3D")의 스타일이 내 취향인 듯. 
근데 생긴 게 어떨 때 보면 꼭 Edward Norton 같다...ㅋㅋㅋ
그나저나 요즘 Massive Attack 멤버들은 안 싸우고 잘들 지내시는지...ㅋㅋㅋ 
Massive Attack과 작업했던 보컬들 중 내가 가장 좋아하는 보컬리스트 3명:
Elizabeth Fraser, Horace Andy, 그리고 3D

1) Elizabeth Fraser
Portishead의 Beth Gibbons처럼 목소리 무쟈게 아름답다...ㅜ.ㅜ 
영국이나 스코틀랜드, 아일랜드 쪽 동네 언니들은 참 목소리가 아름답고, 애절하고, 음색이 독특한 거 같다.

난 이 분 보컬이 그렇게 좋더라... 매우 독특해! 바로 이 분!

이건 2007년 모습이란다... 이 분은 레게 뮤지션.

3) 3D
3D가 아마도 The Wild Bunch 시절부터 지금까지 남아 있는 유일한 Massive Attack 멤버일 것이다.
그의 보컬은 딱히 보컬이라고 하기 뭐하다. 
Wikipedia에는 이런 스타일의 보컬이 sprechgesang(독어. spoken-voice 혹은 spoken-song)이라고 되어 있다.

즉, speaking과 singing의 중간 쯤...

Mezzanine 앨범 이전의 음악들은 많이 들어본 건 아니지만 재즈, R&B 느낌이 많이 나는 거 같다.
물론 나도 재즈를 좋아한다. 재즈 싫어하는 사람이 과연 있을까...-..-
그러나 Massive Attack이 재즈스런 음악을 계속 고집했다면 계속 팬 안 했을 수도 있어...^^
Mezzanine 앨범에서 시도한 분위기가 난 더 좋더라...
사실 Mezzanine 때문에 Massive Attack의 팬이 되었으니까.

(미드 하우스의 오프닝 뮤직으로 Teardrop 나올 때 느무 반가웠어...^^)

그리고 3D가 방향을 잘 잡은 듯. Dark, electronic 사운드를 계속 지향해주셔요~ ^^ 
플라시보 공연을 다녀온 후 부쩍 라이브 공연관람을 취미삼고 싶다는 생각이 든다.
Massive Attack 같은 밴드의 라이브를 보려면 영국이라도 날아가야 할 듯...ㅜ.ㅜ
