MGMT: Little Dark Age

Psychedelic rock duo MGMT, comprised of Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, was founded in 2002 as The Management at Wesleyan University. "We weren't trying to start a band," notes Goldwasser. "We were just hanging out and showing each other music that we liked." The two shortened the band's moniker after noticing another band had the name The Management already.

From the beginning, the pair's experimental style was a melting pot of electronica, noise rock and indie pop. In 2005, MGMT released its debut EP, Time to Pretend. The group hit big two years later with Oracular Spectacular, which topped the charts around the world thanks, in part, to to the success of the offering's breakout single "Electric Feel."

The pair followed up on the success of the full-length debut with 2010's Congratulations and a self-titled effort in 2013. Four years passed before the outfit has cranked out new music.

Wednesday, the group signaled its return with the release of "Little Dark Age," a stirring sinister sampling--and title track--of what can be expected from the outfit's upcoming release.

“Incredibly soon we will get back up on the horse of live music in Memphis,” MGMT revealed in a press release earlier this year. “And from atop this great horse we will play old songs and new songs. New songs from our new album that you will newly hear this year!"

얘네들 곡들 중에 현재까지 Time to Pretend를 뛰어넘는 곡이 있나??? 

난 딱히 얘네들을 밀착 팔로잉 하진 않아서 MGMT 하면 아직도 Time to Pretend가 가장 먼저 떠오름.

물론 그 곡 말고도 듣다 보면 괜찮은 곡들이 많이 있다. 어쨋든 그래서 이번에 새 앨범이 나오나 봄? 

얘네가 요즘 밴드이고 나랑 세대차이가 나는 데도 내가 얘네 음악을 그야말로 영어식 표현으로 dig할 수 있는 이유는

약간 복고스러워서인 듯. 이번 신곡 뮤비도 딱 내 10대, 20대 시절 분위기 지대로. 

게다가 분장은?? ㅋㅋㅋ 이거 무슨 큐어 오마쥬 비디오인가? ㅋㅋㅋ 보컬의 앤드류는 저렇게 꾸미니까 영락없이 큐어의 Robert Smith 같네. 

특히 옷이 Friday I'm in Love에서 Robert Smith가 입었던 옷하고 비슷해 보인다.

하여간 얘네는 요즘 시대에 꽤 특이한 밴드들 중 하나임에는 틀림 없는 듯.
