Placebo, Taratata 2006.
Nagui addressing to Jane Birkin : -''it's you return, returning home. You're with us today presenting your new album.Which you're doing alone, I mean since Serge left us. But still have the album called ''Rendezvous'' which represents the collection of duets - covers and original, written especially for him composition of such gatherings with various artists and there is a duet with Brian Molko. Would like to know what do you think of him what is your collaboration with this artist.
Jane:''He wrote the song... very powerful, interesting and with lush meaning and genius lyrics. He is such a, sort of strange young man kinda complicated... but I didn't even had a will to get the idea of him... this is exactly the mystery, this magic which is interesting upon him. He always tried to clarify, designate... and think , it is very good. I like it when people remain like this... perfectionists in everything, even if there is also a bit of arrogance. Brian in general is such a gentle and sensitive. It was also obvious while he was performing his part in our duet, the way he treated me, also the way he tried consulting about the lyrics. So I find him very gentle and sweet.
Hagui:''he is here at this room. We farewell Jane Birkin welcome Placebo
{Song To Say Goodbye plays}
Hagui:''Welcome Brian. So what else you gonna play?... What the audience says, do you want!''
[acquiescent screaming from the audience]
Bri:''We gonna play the Bitter End.''
[the Bitter End start playing]
Hagui-:''Now Brian is gonna join us.''
[the audience applause standing]
Bri-:''Very sweet!''
Hagui-:''Don't know if it is sweet but it definitely means that these people have taste. Except specific musical standards and success level you've got something more important which lays beyond all that and which is very precious. It has to do with your perspectives, attitude and associations based on kindness and respect. Love artists when is kind and respectful, people love them and appreciate them much more, like the most in this room. So thank you!''
Bri-:''That's because my mum raised me very well. So you should thank Her.''
Hagui-''Certainly, will thank mum.Placebo in Latin it's kind of medicine.''
Bri-''In general,the translation is ''I shall please''.
Hagui-''Ok,with this meaning it's really suits you.''
Bri-''Think,yes.[laughing]
Hagui-''In general, placebo is a medicine that doesn't treat but gives such effect.''
Bri-''Yes,this medicine gives a psychological effect on consciousness.''
Hagui-''It kind of associates with the name of your last album?''
Bri-''it makes an impression to me that when our 1st album called Placebo came out nobody actually asked about it and didn't make...Meds is exact unconventional return to our roots, come back to our harsh rock-sound, vast guitar. Think this album, we are up to date.''
Hagui-''this is a very good album in my point of view. Btw Jane Birkin...I hope you heard what she said about you?''
Bri-''Yes,this is a real compliment for me. I was backstage saw it on the screen... I'm delighted, I'm enchanted. Thank you Jane I love you!''
Hagui-''This mystery, she was talking about , is this important? I mean, not tell everything, fencing your life...''
Bri-''Of course.I think, that today especially since the net came along there's less mystery which was surrounding the artists back then. Everyone wanna know everything about you, about your private life the past, and waiting for something... I was brought up in Venyl and at that era bands was surrounded by a web of intrigue which has run out a bit these days. So now we're trying to resurrect it in our rock world.''
Hagui-''I'll come back to the lyrics anyways... they mostly talk about difficulties, anguish, about condition, even when it's hard to breathe ''Come Home'' for example and other problems which in general people in whole world are experiencing, the young people mostly. And what's all is a result of your observation of your generation or in the base of your songs eventually lay your own problems, teenage angst associated with your will to leave this bourgeoisie surrounding ?''
Bri-''Hmm of course this is my life my past worries. But my goal wasn't to shock by themes I touched in my songs. I was just trying to tell about what was going on in life at that moment. Btw have to say that I'm writing little stories inspired by true events, real emotions, my emotions but that's all are mini tales, stories. But I wouldn't like someone to open my album and read the lyrics thinking that reading about Brian Molko's life. Maybe that's why I want to preserve the mystery, the enigma...''
Hagui-''Everyone finds something personal in songs anyway...''
Bri-''Of course! I'm not interested in telling people how to comprehend my songs. I'd like this to be a personal interpretation of the listener.''
Hagui-''Everyone finds in them something they want. You've said ones about someone-''He is incredibly smart and charming, he knows everything and understands everything that's going on in European culture. I love him, he's f*ing voice, amazing eyes, it is my musical friend who I trust... we have the same sexual obsessions. You know about whom I'm talking about?''
Bri-[looking around]:''Stef?!''
Hagui -[laughing]
Bri-''No, I don't remember me saying this.''
Hagui-''I'll give you a hint: it's about Indochine.''
Bri-''Nicola! So yes, yes we 've the same interests.
Hagui-''We got a surprise, the result of your collaboration which I hope everybody in this room gonna like.''
[Pink Water plays]
Nagui-''Pink Water is in the new Indochine album. Are you real friends?''
Bri-''Yes, he is a good friend of mine. We wanted to do something together but for such ''interesting'' reasons, you know... it wasn't the marketing way or somebody elses' wish... I mean people often had been asking me ''when you gonna do something together?' 'etc We were waiting for a right moment , we came to conclusion that this moment will never come, so... he had to write something in English. He was in Paris, I was in Bangkok. Shut myself in toilet of a palace smoked some cigarettes and... wrote a song[laughs]
[someone from the audience threw a comment ''why so much honesty ?''about the toilet part. So Nagui clarified that it was bathroom]
Hagui-''Thank you very much Brian!''
